CHRIS Melling was beaten in an Ultimate Pool Pro Series final on Friday night, losing 8-5 to Stevie Dempsey.

The 10 marquee events are being held at the Grand Hotel in Blackpool, spread out over five weekends.

Events seven and eight took place over the weekend, and Keighley native Melling was in fine form during the former.

He crushed Paull Clack 7-1 in his opener, before dismantling Johan Attard 7-3.

That put him into a tricky last-16 clash against Josh Kane, which he won 6-5.

Another tight game saw Melling down Ronan McCarthy 7-6 in the quarters, before he stunned the talented Jordan Shepherd by beating him 7-1 in the semis.

But the final was one step too far, as Dempsey took the crown.

Fellow Keighley native Arfan Dad and Bradford’s Karl Boyes both lost their opening clashes of the event in the last-64, to Carl Morris and Cameron Tolley respectively.

A disappointing weekend for Dad was compounded when he was immediately knocked out of event eight after losing 7-5 to Jon McAllister.

But Melling joined him in a last-64 exit, as Cole Bedford won a thrilling encounter against the Keighley veteran 7-6.

Boyes did get through that stage, defeating Jimmy Carney 7-6, but then he came up short against Bedford in the last-32, losing 7-5.
