TOM Doyle has not quite got the Super League opportunity he was after, with him joining Wakefield Trinity for 2024.

The former Bradford Bulls hooker, 24, left his hometown club a year ago to join neighbours Keighley Cougars, a surprise to many who had been touting him for a move into the top-flight.

With Keighley’s results going south as 2023 wore on, leading to their relegation from the Betfred Championship on the final day, vice-captain Doyle was widely expected to move on this autumn.

Confirming his departure at the end of last month, Keighley said the hooker would be moving to Super League.

And while was technically true at the time, Wakefield’s own relegation means they will only be a Championship side next season.

Trinity, under new head coach Daryl Powell, will surely be the favourites to top the division, but they will have the likes of Featherstone, Toulouse, and perhaps even Doyle’s hometown club Bradford, trying to stand in their way.
