Keighley Cougars have a relatively clean bill of health going into their first competitive game of 2024, though two players will definitely be absent.

New boys Alex Bishop and Liam Copland will miss out on the 1895 Cup group stage clash with Dewsbury Rams at Cougar Park, with both still undergoing treatment for short-term injuries.

The experienced Oscar Thomas is also a doubt for the clash with a dead leg.

Cougars were well beaten in their opening two friendlies, against Oldham and Castleford, but produced a far better display in a narrow 16-6 defeat to Halifax last Sunday.

Dewsbury also played three pre-season games, losing to Featherstone and Huddersfield but claiming a highly-creditable draw against neighbours Batley on Boxing Day.

Whoever wins Sunday's clash will give themselves a chance of making the 1895 Cup quarter-finals, but they would also have to beat Bradford Bulls in their other Group 2 fixture to guarantee progression.
