A KEIGHLEY triathlete is hoping to really push on this season and reach the podium at some stage.

Jimmy Lund's ultimate goal is to reach an Olympics games.

He will not be heading to Paris next month but is keen to continue his progression to have a chance of making Los Angeles in 2028.

The young athlete kicked off his 2024 season this past weekend in the Europe Triathlon Cup.

The event took place in Kielce, Poland on Saturday.

With Bramhope rival Jonny Brownlee amongst the field, Lund was fairly satisfied with his result, given the circumstances.

"It was a good race, my first European Cup this season," he told the Keighley News.

"Expectations were fairly low, I just wanted to see how well I could do.

"I was interested to see how well I would do against the top athletes, including Jonny Brownlee."

He added: "I had quite a tough semi final and it meant I had the least amount of time than anyone else to recover before the final.

"In the final, I was a little more tired than expected and finished 21st.

"Not a bad result, but a little bit off where I wanted to be."

Lund will race in a similar format in the same country tomorrow.

He expects it to be another chance to gain vital "race experience" ahead of a busy schedule at the end of the year.

Lund said: "My main aims are more tailored to the end of the season where I am going to be racing most of my World Cups in September and October.

"This part of the season is all about getting some good race experience under the belt.

"Hopefully that race fitness will help me out later in the year."

He added: "My plan is to try get a podium at a World Cup.

"I made my debut last year and finished 20th."

An appearance at the Olympics remains the dream for the Keighley triathlete.

He will have a keen eye on next month's Paris games and wants to use it as inspiration for his own career.

Lund said: "I will definitely be watching that and paying close attention to it to inspire me for the next four years.

"The main goal is to get to an Olympics.

"If I can continue this trajectory I am on, it could be doable.

"It is about climbing that ladder.

"Last year, I got to my first World Cups.

"It meant this year, I have four World Cups at my disposal so could do any of them. I need to be in the best shape for them."
