Three Keighley district cyclists top the Yorkshire Cyclo-Cross Points Series after the latest round at Temple Newsam last weekend.

Victories for Tom Moses (junior), Matt Denby (veteran) and Joseph Moses (youth) at the Leeds-based Jonathan Noble Memorial race saw them leading their categories after five events.

One of the strongest performances of the day came from Oakworth’s Tom Moses, who was second overall and crossed the line just 20 seconds behind event winner and top veteran Noel Clough, the Fietsen Tempo rider from Northallerton.

The display was the ideal preparation for the Team Wallis-CHH ace ahead of Sunday’s national cyclo-cross round at Mallory Park in Leicestershire, with Moses currently level on points at the top of the junior men’s rankings with Luke Gray.

Oxenhope’s Matt Denby claimed his fifth successive maximum points haul in the veterans section, beating Zepnat team-mate Jonathan Watson and Peak RC’s Dan Cook.

His success came despite racing the previous day in Liverpool and suffering a crash that ended his race early.

The youth races continue to provide some thrilling racing, and Tom’s brother Joseph Moses (Bronte Wheelers) took victory from Bradford rival Ed McParland of JD Cycles, while Billy Harding (Bradford Oly-mpic) was third.

Former British national champion Chris Young, the JD Cycles rider from Keighley, had to settle for fourth spot in the main event after being beaten to third place by Raleigh Avanti visitor Rob Friel.

Clough’s victory in that race left him fifth overall on 192 points, just four behind fellow veteran Young, while Bradford’s Rob Thackray (Paul Milnes RT) and team-mate Rob Watson have 233 and 228 in first and second place respectively.

Top woman was series leader Adela Carter (Crosstrax), who was ninth overall.
