Ross Towler sung the praises of his young bowling colleagues Luke Chapman and Paul Quinlan after they helped Keighley destroy bottom club Great Horton.

The pace bowler was delighted with his side’s response to last week’s Bradford League Division Two defeat against Morley, also singling out Matthew Bottomley for special mention after he followed his 106 not out the previous week with an unbeaten half century.

Great Horton are still rooted to the bottom without a win to their name.

They never looked like halting their losing sequence as they were bowled out by Keighley for 94, with Quinlan (4-47) and Chapman (3-19) doing the damage.

Keighley lost just one wicket as they cruised to victory.

Towler said: “We responded really well to last week’s disappointment.

“There were some good individual performances, particularly from Paul (Quinlan) and Luke (Chapman).

“Luke has been very consistent with bat and ball for the Under-17s and seconds this season and stepped up really well, taking three wickets and bowling full and straight.

“Matthew too has been in outstanding form and it was another great knock from him.

“Great Horton do have some dangerous players and it was a professional performance by us. Heads were down after last week and we wanted to put it right.”

Towler admitted that promotion was now out of reach but said there was still lots to play for.

“We want to win as many games as possible. Our pride is at stake and there are still some good games to come, including some derbies.”

Scott Hartley made 71 as he guided Keighley II to a three-wicket win over Great Horton (143). Hartley’s innings was the highest of the day in the division.
