A special batting award was presented to Haworth’s prolific run-scorer Jamie Rowell at the club’s annual dinner last week.

Rowell, who scored 1,160 runs last season and became the highest scorer in the club’s history, was presented with a special framed set of cricketer cigarette cards from honorary life member Colin Deakin.

The Tom Barritt Trophy for all-round improvement went to under-17 junior Steve Bell, who has played some outstanding cricket for the first and second teams this year.

Other award-winners were: 1st XI: Bowling – Damian Rowell; Fielding – Ben Bright. 2nd XI: Bowling – Derek Bright; Fielding – Barry Clayton; Batting – Adrian Ratcliffe. Chairman Brian Rat-cliffe presented a silver salver to Kath and Trevor Gower as thanks for their work.

The pair are stepping down after ten years of coaching youngsters, many of whom are now in the senior sides.

The club have another special reason to celebrate as work on their clubhouse extension has now begun thanks to a recently-awarded £10,000 grant from the Big Lottery Fund’s ‘Awards for All’.

A club committee member said: “It’s a dream come true.

“We’ve been working really hard to improve our facilities and now we can go ahead with our plans to become a big part of the community and fulfil our part with our unique facilities and fantastic setting.

“We’re so thankful for this grant – it really does mean a huge amount to all of us.”
