A batting collapse saw Keighley slip to a 53-run defeat at Bowling Old Lane in Division Two.

The Lawkholme Laners lost their last six wickets for just 12 runs, finishing well short of the hosts’ 162.

The match was still in the balance at 97-4 but, when Jonny Wilkinson was stumped off the bowling of Mahboob Hussain, the batting folded as none of the last seven Keighley batsmen reached double figures.

Led by Simon Bailey in the absence of skipper Max Davidson and the injured Richard Robinson, the visitors had earlier pegged back Old Lane to a modest score.

Ayyaz Akram (46) and Mohammed Faisal (39) had laid a platform for the Bradford side with the game’s highest partnership of 67 for the third wicket.

But the dismissal of Akram at 108-2 by left-arm spinner Tom Stead (4-38) saw Keighley get back in the game as he and Bailey (3-33) came to the fore.

Keighley entertain Gomersal on Saturday.

Richard Wood (50) and Andy Waggett (33) put on 86 in Keighley II’s 141-9 off 46 overs at home to Saltaire II, who had reached 74-2 when the match was abandoned due to rain.

Keighley II visit Pudsey Congs on Saturday before travelling to Hanging Heaton on Sunday in the Priestley Shield quarter-final.
