Cullingworth father-and-son duo Robin and Sam Luscombe added another British Sidecar Championship crown to their impressive list of titles last Sunday.

All they had to do was complete the Peak District course in Hope, Derbyshire, which they managed.

They were beaten by a single penalty by Rochester father-and-son pair Rupert and Chris Kimber but finished well clear of them in the race for the championship.

For Robin, it was national title number 15 in a competition career spanning over 30 years.

His tally of national titles is unlikeley to ever be beaten.

He has also won the Manx Two-Day Trial the same number of times and ridden the national Scottish Pre-65 Two-Day event on solo machines, in which he has come very near to adding to his portfolio.

Spen Valley club members Nigel Scott and passenger Jay Ashley Hall finished sixth in the clubman category.

Meanwhile, Trawden Pidcock Mont-esa trials rider Ross Crosby was in a class of his own on Sunday at the Bradford Motor Club’s John Metcalfe Trophy Trial at Cowling.

He mastered a testing 19-section course, riding a total of 38 hazards for a mere three penalties. The ride won him the John Metcalfe Trophy and it also left Scott Trial winner Phillip Alderson trailing by a massive 25 penalties.

The clubman result saw Fence contender Luke Standring finish ahead of Baildon’s Paul Jacks and Oakworth competitor Darren Holmes.

Lothersdale youngster Nathan Parker opted to ride the hard route, and won his class.

If the Bradford trial at Cowling was an ordeal for observers, the sixth round of Horsforth DMC’s sixth novice and beginners trial at Greenhow was just about a bridge too far. Eight hardy officials withstood the bad weather conditions on what must be one of the most exposed trials courses in north Yorkshire.

Armley competitor Steve Fowler overcame the conditions to win the harder-course class from Harrogate’s Phillip Hammond and Eccleshill Class C youngster Kieran Child and rival neighbour Joe Faunthorpe.

Keighley’s Class C starlet Jacob Snowdon won the easy class from Cononley’s Will Harrison and Gisburn’s Sam Peel.

Silsden girl Gabby Whitham would have made it a youth whitewash but Peter Henfrey spoilt her day by winning the over-forties class ahead of her.
