LAST weekend’s West Riding County League programme produced a mixed bag of results.

In the Premier Division, Silsden were at Yorkshire Amateur, who went into the break 5–0 up. The “Dragons” were out-played by a solid, well-organised “Ammers”, who ended the game 10–0, including a chip from ex-Silsden player Megan Robson-Owens.

In a late change, Thackley hosted Harrogate Town Reserves. In an entertaining match, the “Sulphurettes” had a 3–0 head start at half-time, going on to beat the “Dennygirls” 6–2.

In the First Division, Ilkey Town had a well-fought away battle resulting in them beating Farsley Celtic Juniors Ladies Reserves 3-1. The Baht’atters’ goal-scorers were Eva Curran, Izzy Macina and Shareen Munir.

Skipton Town entertained Morley Town. Despite plenty of pressure, Skipton were unable to get a winner, with the points shared in a tough game that finished 1–1.

In the Third Division, Burley Trojans had a good run out at Kinsley. The 9–0 win featured goals from Britt Tate (2), Gemma Croft, Hannah Spivey (2), Charlotte Keane, Ellie McCready and Ellie-Jane Bathers.

Athletico travelled to Wortley, hoping to bounce back to keep up with leaders Brighouse Town Devs. Despite an Ikra Ali hat-trick, they ended up losing 9–3. Unfortunately they also dropped down to third position after West Yorkshire Ladies gained a 12–0 win over Bradford (Park Avenue) Development, despite some spectacular saves by stand-in keeper Melandri Nyandoro.

Queensbury Celtic showed hard work and determination against leaders Brighouse Town Development in a 10–1 loss that featured a well-taken consolation goal from Shoanna Clark.

Queensbury’s under-17s were all-square at 2–2 at Amaranth in the West Riding Girls’ League. Queensbury secured a strong 5–3 win, with Amaranth pushing the game right to the final whistle.

In the FA Reserve Division, City’s u23s were away to their Leeds United counterparts. After going 3–0 behind, Leah Greaves and Crystal Knapton played well to pull two back, but Leeds took the points with a 5–2 win.

In the West Riding Junior Shield, Ilkley’s u12s lost 4–2 at Altofts in the Quarter-finals.

Newly-formed team Field Ladies played their first-ever game, a friendly at Hemsworth-based West End Terriers. An end-to-end first half saw many chances for both teams. Tasha Williams, Kirsty Setchell and Julia Jefferis all came close, and there was some good stoppage play from defender Megan Howell.

Early in the second half, West End were awarded a free-kick that was laid-off to be smashed past keeper Emily McKinley for the only goal of the game.

This Sunday’s local football sees Bradford City playing Newcastle United at Kingsway, and Bradford (Park Avenue) hosting Hull United. Brighouse Sports, Ilkley Town, Silsden, Skipton Town and Tyersal are all at home, and Queensbury Celtic and Athletico have a local derby at Pit Lane.
